Ever Ever After
Yes, we watched Nim’s Island today.
I can honestly say that it gets the vote for ‘Weirdest Movie we’ve ever watched together’.
The main saving grace of the movie was a weather-beaten Gerard Butler -
Then of course there was Jodie Foster’s delightful portrayal of an agoraphobic writer, the farting seal, the fantastical premise of the story and the beautiful setting. For people who want to escape into another world and just feel like a kid again (while still having some adult humour to entertain you), this is the show for you. All in all, it was a light-hearted, quirky and generally pleasant movie to watch.
Sometimes life is too depressing already, without having to watch things like Feet Unbound.
For me, books, television and movies are an escape. Of course, I enjoy watching good acting. This often involves depressing subject matter and inconclusive endings. More often than not, I am left with a bitter aftertaste in my mouth at the end. Still, I will say that it was a good movie and that I enjoyed it, because of its craftsmanship or acting or beautiful staging.
But ultimately, my favourites are the ones where the guy gets the girl in the end, or where she finally finds what she’s looking for, or where justice is well and truly served. Real life can never be that perfect, but that doesn’t mean that one has to depress oneself even further by perpetuating the sentiment and watching so-called ‘realistic’ movies all the time.
I don’t need the constant reminders that happy endings hardly happen in real life.
I watch shows like Nim’s Island because even in the lowest of times, when everything is going wrong, when people invade the island and her dad is lost at sea, somehow I know that everything is going to be okay in the end.
Ever Ever After - Carrie Underwood
Storybook endings, fairy tales coming true
Deep down inside we want to believe they still do
In our secretest heart, it’s our favourite part of the story
Let’s just admit we all want to make it tooEver ever after
If we just don’t get it our own way
Ever ever after
It may only be a wish awayStart a new fashion, wear your heart on your sleeve
Sometimes you reach what’s real just by making believe
Unafraid, unashamed
There is joy to be claimed in this world
You even might wind up being glad to be youEver ever after
Though the world will tell you it’s not smartEver ever after
The world can be yours if you let your heart
Believe in ever afterNo wonder your heart feels it’s flying
Your head feels it’s spinning
Each happy ending’s a brand new beginning
Let yourself be enchanted, you just might break throughTo ever ever after
Forever could even start today
Ever ever after
Maybe it’s just one wish away
Your ever ever after(I’ve been dreaming of a true love’s kiss)
Oh, for ever ever after
Just so long as I get to see that Happy Ending, that’s all that I can ask for.
